We are seeking a Staff Veterinarian (any experience level) withinour Veterinary Services Team at our Mattawan, MI facility.
The Charles River Mattawan facility has over 1700 employees. Join our dynamic Mattawan Veterinary Services team of 10 veterinarians and over 30 veterinary technicians and behaviorists to care for a diverse range of laboratory, companion, and farm animal species. Our site offers a full-range of pre-clinical services with multiple areas of specialty study focus, including drug safety, surgery, neurology, cardiovascular pharmacology, reproduction, molecular imaging, and ophthalmology. Located in southwest Michigan, surrounded by lakes, we are 15 minutes from Kalamazoo, a college town of over 100,000, and a bit over two hours from Chicago or Detroit.
Key Responsibilities
Provide consultation, oversight, and direct support of veterinary care activities for all animals used at Charles River.
Respond to veterinary consults by examining animals, making treatment recommendations, communicating with study directors, and following cases through resolution.
On-call/emergency service on a rotating basis shared amongst the team of clinical veterinarians.
Assist the Attending Veterinarian and Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) to ensure compliance with animal welfare standards and regulations by AAALAC, Int., USDA, and PHS-OLAW.
Support the evaluation of test article effects by performing examinations and making assessments to interpret study effects in animals.
Support the development of cutting-edge therapeutics and help lead high-quality animal care programs in line with the institution’s commitment to high standards of animal welfare.
Make meaningful impact in animal care while enhancing data integrity and scientific rigor of our studies through highly intentional collaborative and supportive efforts with the scientific and operational staff.

About Safety Assessment Charles River is committed to helping our partners expedite their preclinical drug development with exceptional safety assessment services, state-of-the-art facilities and expert regulatory guidance. From individual specialty toxicology and IND enabling studies to tailored packages and total laboratory support, our deeply experienced team can design and execute programs that anticipate challenges and avoid roadblocks for a smooth, efficient journey to market. Each year approximately 120 investigational new drug (IND) programs are conducted in our Safety Assessment facilities.

Qualifications for the positions include, but are not limited to:
DVM or equivalent degree obtained from an AVMA accredited institution from 1 year to 20+ years of relevant experience.
Licensure to practice veterinary medicine in at least one state, preferred.
USDA accreditation, preferred.
Basic familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite.
Computer skills, commensurate with Essential Functions and including ability to learn a validated system.
Ability to work extended hours beyond normal work schedule when scheduled for emergency-on-call duties (shared amongst the team) to include, but not limited to, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
