The Animal Emergency Room is looking for full time, part time, or relief emergency  veterinarians to complement the emergency team. Our Practice: The Animal Emergency Room is an AAHA- accredited, privately owned, after-hours facility located in Northwest San Antonio that has thrived since start up in 2000.

Our Owner/Chief Medical Officer is an ABVP Diplomate in Canine and Feline Practice, and soon to be a Founding member of the ABVP Emergency Practice Fellowship. She is also an associate editor in the Emergency Medicine Folder on the Veterinary Information Network. She has had experience mentoring new veterinarians and is willing to mentor a veterinarian interested in ER work or in  pursuing ABVP board certification and/or an Emergency Practice Fellowship.

 Our facility is well staffed and fully equipped with the most advanced technology to manage urgent and emergency cases. Our hospital has an in-house lab, 2021 Digital X-ray machine, GE Ultrasound, fully equipped surgical suite, and an isolation room viewable from the treatment room for constant monitoring.

The Ideal Candidate: Veterinarians should be able to work overnight, independently, prioritize patient treatment and procedures, communicate well with clients and staff, direct the staff respectfully, and contribute to the positive work environment. Confidence in soft-tissue surgical skills is a plus for common surgical emergencies. Staff veterinarians are expected to use the most current treatment modalities and participate in monthly staff/doctor meetings. Veterinarians should also be able to communicate proactively to the area veterinarians of San Antonio. Some holiday hours are required and split fairly among associates.

Mentorship: Our Chief Medical Officer is happy to mentor new graduates.  She looks forward to collaborating in hospital with any new graduates for the first 2-6 months. Following the initial mentoring period, she will be available for consultations or hospital visits if assistance is needed.

Additionally, she would be willing to provide the same assistance for experienced doctors venturing into emergency care for the first time if requested.
