Reporting directly to Chief Medical Officer, the Director of Medical Services is responsible for supporting all hospitals relative to Medical Services, MedVet initiatives, and overall hospital functions. A primary role will be to provide onboarding and support of Medical Services integration of new hospitals and expanding services, including the Interim Medical Director role, as needed.  This individual will work directly with MedVet Hospitals to improve processes, profitability, and identify and implement local growth initiatives.   

This full-time leadership position works collaboratively with each level of the MedVet organization to deliver our mission of Leading Specialty Healthcare for Pets. The Director must have a strong sense of culture and the ability to influence behavior and effectively manage change.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Medical Services Integration

• Collaborate with the Director of Medical Services Integration to support the medical integration of new hospitals and departments into the MedVet culture and delivery of the MedVet Experience.
• Act as Interim Medical Director to support hospitals, as needed
• Provide on-site presence to identify and develop department medical leadership in new acquisitions.
• Initiate and participate in Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) for key departments throughout MedVet
• Establish a highly functional and collaborative network of Doctors
• Foster partnership between local hospital leadership and the Medical Operations team to develop growth plans for departments.
• Collaborate with local hospital leaders to support implementation and execution of Operational Plans

Hospital Operations

• Recommends, acquires and maintains knowledge of organizational and local practice policies and procedures
• Assesses and influences proper scheduling and optimization
• Analyzes and interprets operational reports and identifies areas for improvement

Project Management

• Creates action plans, sets and manages goals, delegates tasks, and tracks metrics
• Analyzes and improves systems, policies, and processes

Financial Management

• Analyzes the financial health of departments and diagnoses issues
• Applies balanced judgement to analysis of expense and revenue to provide value-based healthcare service

Employee Engagement

• Fosters a culture that supports development of engaged and empowered employees across MedVet with a strong sense of team in each department
• Assists in the development of a healthy partnership between Medical and Hospital Directors, Department Representatives, and HR Partners to effectively interview, hire, develop and address employee issues
• Coaches and mentors doctors

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Our ideal candidate is a DVM with a minimum of 10 years’ experience in the veterinary industry with an emphasis on multisite experience. In addition, this position requires:

• Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills

• Strong clinical background and knowledge of the veterinary industry
• Ability to lead through influence, negotiate successful resolution to issues and drive consistency across hospitals
• Consistently demonstrates our core values of Teamwork, Leadership and Compassion and the ability to develop strong cultures in each of our hospitals
• Strong project management skills and knowledge of hospital management processes, efficiencies, standards, metrics, and benchmarks
• Technology proficient with Microsoft Office Suite required and knowledge of veterinary hospital management software, such as EzyVet, preferred
• Work remotely and travel 50-75% of the time (as appropriate)
