The owners and staff of the Lane Animal Hospital, the oldest veterinary hospital Washtenaw County and located in the charming and historic town of Chelsea, Michigan are seeking an experienced Practice Manager to join our team of 7 doctors and 20 support staff (including 5 licensed veterinary technicians). We have an immediate opening. The ideal candidate will be a Certified Veterinary Practice Manager or Veterinary Practice Manager with 2+ years of full time experience.

We provide excellent medical care and strongly believe in the importance of service, client education, preventative medicine and staff education in a state of the art facility that strives to promote Fear Free visits that help strengthen the Human Animal Bond. We offer any array of services ranging from surgery (board certified surgeon also available on an as-needed basis), dentistry, radiology, ultrasound, wellness and sick patient care, in-house laboratory and diagnostics, boarding, grooming, nutrition counseling, training and rehabilitation services. We dedicate two uninterrupted hours per week for an all-hospital staff education and bonding. We do not have after-hours emergency hours and do refer to one of our area’s excellent local emergency offerings.
We are looking for the candidate that is self-motivated, has excellent time-management skills, great leadership qualities, a good work ethic, is driven and can work independently. An individual with the desire to continue to grow our hospital into the next many decades is wanted. The ideal candidate is a strong leader that can help develop the team and interns to their full potential as well as be involved in the day to day financial aspects of running a well-managed practice. Strong management skills are required as is training for staff in both medical knowledge, customer service, and technical skills.
Hiring and training team members
Maintaining OSHA standards and documentation
Scheduling of all team members as well as maintaining requests for time off
Conducting twice yearly performance reviews as well as any disciplinary reviews as needed
Handling client questions and concerns with a strong commitment to service
Playing an active part in staff meetings
Participating in community service involvement
Periodically meeting with distributor and manufacturer reps
Maintaining record of monthly expenses to help contribute to budget and finances
Paying and maintaining records for invoices
Continual review of processes and protocols for improvement and refinement
At least 2 years of veterinary practice management experience in a larger hospital is required. The ideal candidate will be a CVPM, or CVPM eligible. Experienced veterinary practice managers with strong human resource experience are also encouraged to apply.
Proficient in QuickBooks, Microsoft Office and email communications a must
Possessing a working knowledge of hospital and inventory budgeting with an ability to assess and discuss practice performance and help outline and achieve goals
Time management and excellent verbal and written communication skills are a must
Experience with electronic medical records required (Cornerstone Veterinary software knowledge is a plus as we are a paper “light” hospital).
Must be able to work some evenings and 1-2 Saturdays per month
