The American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), the national not-for-profit association established in 1863 that represents over 89,000 veterinarians working in private and corporate practice, government, industry, academia, and uniformed services is seeking an Online Editorial Assistant to join our Publications team located at our Headquarters office in Schaumburg, Illinois, a northwest suburb of Chicago.
Reporting to the Senior News Editor, the Online Editorial Assistant will be responsible for providing technical and administrative assistance in the development and maintenance of various digital efforts for the two AVMA journals. Technical assistance includes maintaining the online news site for the Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association (JAVMA); assisting with production of content for the JAVMA mobile app; developing social media content for the AVMA journals; and monitoring and assessing website traffic and app usage. The Online Editorial Assistant will also provide administrative support for special online products, such as interactive graphs and timelines, online photo galleries, and videos, and assist the Editor-in-Chief with interfacing with digital services vendors and consultants.
A bachelor’s degree, with a minimum of 2 years of web scripting experience or active use of web technologies is required. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal, are essential, including the ability to positively interact with staff, volunteer leadership, and vendors. We require working experience and knowledge of Microsoft Office, Google Analytics, Photoshop, and video editing software. Familiarity with social media use and strategy is required. Candidate must be highly organized and able to manage multiple projects and tasks simultaneously. The flexibility to work overtime and/or outside regular business hours is required.
